Seaside in a Day

July 9, 2010

We are on vacation this week, Cal from work and myself from school. But we really couldn't come up with much to do that would be acceptable to all and inexpensive. So, off to the beach for a day we went. It was beautiful, sunny and very hot in St. Helens. At the beach...FOG! We ate a picnic lunch at Ecola State Park and then hit the town.

Emily and Becca told us the sad story that they had never ridden the carousel in the Carousel Mall before. The poor neglected children, we just had to make that right.

Sam was most excited for the bumper cars and Dad talked us all into taking a spin. The girls were surprisingly nervous to drive a bumper car. Funny. We all did a little more driving in circles than we planned and came out of there with our adrenaline pumping, something Emily stated that she "hates!"

The shopping was also a hit. Emily found the perfect hat AND the perfect sunglasses.

A couple of hours were spent on the beach at Fort Stevens at the end of the day, a little volleyball, a little swimming, a little reading and napping, but it was breezy and cool and not the favorite part of the day. We had planned to build a fire on the beach and roast hot dogs, but the vote was unanimous to head home. We did make a quick detour in Rainer at the carnival so the kids could ride the ferris wheel, another thing they claim they have never done! We have certainly neglected these poor kids.
